Keep Your Kids Cool This Summer

June 28th, 2010 1 comment

Summer is the perfect season to play outside and take your kids on daily outings, but the heat can be overwhelming if you don´t dress them appropriately. The summer sun means you´ll want your baby clothes to be lightweight and allow your children´s bodies to cool themselves.

The first thing to look for in summer baby clothes, whether boys’ clothes or girls’, is the right fabric. Cotton is ideal, since it lets the skin breathe and wicks perspiration away from your little one´s skin. However, since cotton tends to wrinkle, you may look for a polyester/cotton blend that is at least 50% cotton.

Avoid fabrics that are shiny or slick, like rayon. These will trap heat next to the child´s body and can be very uncomfortable in warm weather. You can test baby clothes by putting your hand inside the clothing and wrapping the fabric around it . . . if your hand feels hot and sweaty in a few seconds, you will want to look for something cooler. What Will Make Hot Fashion This Summer?

June 24th, 2010 No comments

With winter wear well and truly banished to the back of the wardrobe, it’s time to stock up on fabulous summer fashion. From footwear to headwear – and everything in between – it’s all change as this year’s new lines start to hit the high street.

In 2007 big shoes are expected to make a big hit! It’s time to mothball those delicate, feminine heels because it’s chunky wedges and platforms that will feature this year. During the day, rope-wrapped espadrilles will be ‘de rigueur’ and for that glamorous night out, the step up to sexy, evening platforms will be the norm. But, what will you be wearing on top to match footwear that makes such a statement?

With 42% of the average UK women’s wardrobe consisting of entirely black items, its bad news for your bank account but great news for your shopping alter-ego, as you head to the shops for this summer’s super colours. With most designers choosing bright and bold colours incorporating vivid blues, yellows and poppy reds, you’ll need to find the perfect match for you in terms of both the latest fashions and the spectacular colours on show.

For the mega-bold, neon clothing screams ‘dare you to wear me!’, while for futuristic fashion, the space age look is set for a meteoric rise – with metallic silver becoming the ‘must-have’ colour.

But, if you think those colours are just a tad too bold, then fear not. Grey will still feature heavily this year, thanks to stylish ranges from most of the high street fashion stores. And although it may be frowned upon on its own, black is definitely on the racks this summer – mostly when combined with white. Everything including swimwear, accessories and dresses will carry this bold combination in prints and solids, stripes and checks, and dresses and two pieces.

Designs showcased on the catwalks during fashion week highlighted the return of 80s power-dressing. So prepare yourself – shoulder pads are coming back, but hopefully they won’t be accompanied by endless re-runs of Dallas and Dynasty! Also quite bold, but less obtrusive than the pad is the puff sleeve, also favoured by designers and guaranteed to be in plentiful supply throughout 2007, both on tops and dresses.

Denim accessories will feature heavily this year; whether its handbags or shoes, all are designed to be worn with this season’s colours. But, also expected to sell strongly this season will be the evergreen denim shorts, both as hotpants for the bold or on-the-knee versions for the more conservative amongst us. Whilst we’re on the subject, leg-fashion is most definitely back, with the mini-skirt expected to feature heavily in this summer’s must-have fashion items, alongside the recently revived leggings look. With zig zags, panels, pinstripes, pleats, flannel check and countless other designs, you’ll find mini skirts in abundance, while many high street stores will carry extensive ranges and with a similar, massive choice in leggings, you won’t be left wanting.

So, it’s good news if you want to stock up on summer fashion. But, while there is plentiful choice, the secret to making that ideal look will come down, as always to shopping around, trying on all the styles and seeing exactly what suits you!

Beaded Sandals – The Latest Women’s Sandals For This Summer

June 19th, 2010 No comments

Are you looking for something distinctive in shoes and sandals this summer? Tired of plain summer flipflops and sandals? Want to be fashionable and up to the minute ? Beaded sandals are the latest hot favourite, chosen by your favourite stars. Beaded sandals can be bought in different shapes and designs to go with all your summer clothes. Beaded flip flop sandals are a wonderful substitute for your basic, boring standard flip flops, with beautiful silver or pewter beaded straps – ideal for the beach with a matching bikini and wrap to get you noticed and add some style or with a floaty skirt for unfussy elegance.

If you would like something a little more up market, beaded flat sandals could be what you’re looking for. The simplest designs are similar to a flip flop as they have toe posts, although they will be beaded, but sometimes they have leather uppers and soles which makes these sandals much more hardwearing and stylish. You can find many styles of beading to choose from, you can have small, delicate beads or outsized, bolder beads in different arrangements, or even one large flamboyant bead.

You can choose from a choice of colours for the base sandal and the beading, a good choice for a sandal you want to wear with anything would be brown leather with pewter or silver beading, or if you’re feeling flamboyant you could opt for  something much bolder like a gold sandal with coloured beads. These sandals would look great with a pair of jeans or light summer trousers, with red polished toenails to set them off, or you might wear them with a light, summer skirt for a casual summer evening barbecue.

More complex types of flat beaded sandals often have a beaded ankle strap attached to the straps, or several thinner straps that fasten about the ankle. These ‘tribal’ styles usually have lots more beads in elaborate designs and multi colours, giving you the latest style. These sandals would be more suitable for extended wear and for walking further, and would look great with light trousers for sight seeing. They would also be perfect when you want a classier look for a less casual party or barbecue.

An alternative popular style is the gladiator or cage sandal, with multiple straps and several ankle straps, again richly beaded, frequently with studs and many colours of bead.

If you’re not comfortable in flat sandals and you prefer more height, then beaded wedge sandals should be better for you. Usually made from leather wedge sandals will give you height and can look great with skirts and light trousers.

Beach Body Tips For Looking Your Best This Summer

June 17th, 2010 No comments

When summer comes around it seems like everybody is looking for a way to tone up and lose some extra weight from the winter. Everybody wants that beach body that they dream of. There are some simple tips for getting that beach body and being confident as you strut your stuff around in the skimpy summer clothes. Here are some helpful tips for achieving the beach body of your dreams and looking your best this summer.

Don’t procrastinate and wait until the last minute before you summer vacation or the special event that you want to look your best for to start working on your beach body. You will not be able to achieve your best body in only a few short days. This means if you know that you are going to be taking a vacation to Hawaii in July, start your beach body workouts and nutrition plan at the latest in the beginning of June.

It is possible to lose at least two dress sizes and tone up and tighten your body within six weeks. It just takes dedication and a commitment to your program. Slim in 6 is an example of a fitness program that only takes six weeks to reshape your body by slimming and toning your entire body to give you the beach body you want. Slim in 6 provides you with high intensity workouts to get the maximum calorie burn so you can reshape your body in only six weeks.

Exercise is not the only thing needed to get a beach body this summer. You need to eat right and consume less calories than you are right now. A good idea is to give up white starchy foods such as pasta, bread, and potatoes and replace then with healthier whole grain options. Simply replacing your white bread with whole wheat bread can help you lose your food cravings and feel full for longer. This can help you eat less, which means you lose more weight.

Be sure to set realistic goals for what you want to look like this summer. If you are currently 75 pounds overweight, it may be unrealistic that you are going to be wearing a bikini in only six weeks. A more realistic goal would be to that you are going to lose 20 pounds in six weeks along with three dress sizes.

The best way to stay on track for your beach body is set up a regular schedule of when you are going to workout. Actually write your workouts into your schedule, as it makes it harder for you to pass up your workouts for something else. Since you know that it fits into your busy schedule, there is nothing holding you back from your workout.

Lastly, keep your goal of having a beach body and looking your best this summer in mind when you are having food cravings or dedication to the program problems. Imagine yourself strutting your beach body in that bikini as you walk on the sands of the beach. Think about how many people are going to be looking at you and seeing how great you look. Always keep that vision in your head as it can do wonders for your motivation.

Decide to Radiate this Summer Regardless of Your Size

June 15th, 2010 1 comment

In the summertime, Mother Nature doesn’t send us things tough, like strong winds, snow, harvesting chores. Let’s take a tip from Mother Nature and give our Selves a rest from self-criticism.

This article is written for the large woman (or the woman who sees herself as too large) with practical tips for self-love and self-acceptance. I’d like to pack a picnic lunch of tasty ideas about the “I” of you – that inner self who knows nothing about bodily size but instead focuses on character traits.

A lot of showing off of our bodies happens in the summertime, doesn’t it? Young girls strip down to bikinis and strut themselves on the beach. Shorts and halters and sundresses become the norm. Lucky boys and men get to parade only in trunks. How do you feel inside of clothing that exposes more of your body? Read more…

Get Ripped for This Summer

June 3rd, 2010 No comments

Spring is around the corner and most peoples thoughts turn to wanting to look good wearing their summer clothes. Now is the time to start your body’s fat burning furnace to lean out for swimsuit and shirtless weather. These very simple fat burning weight loss tips will help you get there.

The human body is an amazing thing. It is “hard wired” for survival. One of the major contributing factors to our nation’s obesity problem is that our body’s evolution has not caught up to our present day life styles. The body has a natural instinct to store fat for the coming hard times. The problem is, unlike our ancestors who did have to worry about how to feed themselves during bad weather, food is available to us, in abundance all the time. Since the body doesn’t know this it starts storing even more fat than normal as winter approaches. It knows that you have to consume more food in cold weather to generate additional body heat and it doesn’t assume that you will have it. But we do. Hence the fat gained to survive winter, turns into additional body weight for the summer.

Most peoples first thought is to go on a diet and though cutting calories is a sensible plan, what matters more is HOW you cut them. Again, remember, the body is hard wired for survival. A large immediate reduction in calories tells the body “hard times” and your internal furnaces automatically slow down so as to not starve to death. The body doesn’t know you are TRYING to lose weight. Therefore a large immediate reduction in caloric intake (most diets!), results in the body fighting against itself to lose weight in general and fat in particular.

Do you ever allow yourself to get hungry enough so that your stomach growls? If you do forget about fat loss. By this time your body has automatically said to itself “the next food in will not be burned, but stored so we don’t get this close to starvation again”. Again, the body doesn’t know you are TRYING to lose weight. So the trick is how to out smart our body’s into not knowing what we are doing. Here’s how.

Never allow yourself to get hungry. Eat OFTEN!

You have probably heard that many small meals is better than 3 large ones. This is absolutely true. But the real weight and fat loss trick is that they can’t be “meals”. I don’t consider 275-300 calories a meal in anyway. But any more calorie intake than this, at a sitting, will result in fat retention. So obviously, this number or less results in fat loss. But you can never allow your body to be “hungry” because it will shut down fat burning. Around 1800 calories a day (for most men, 1500 for women) spread out over the day (6 sessions of eating) will allow your body to think it’s being nourished enough to allow additional calorie needs to come from stored reserves (fat).

Most people have no problem eating often. You have to train yourself to not eat a lot at each sitting. But remember, the body is amazing. In a VERY short time frame (about a week), it adapts to 6 – 300 calorie feedings as sufficient, hunger pains literally go away and the fat loss begins. Diets and starvation is not the answer, EATING often and right is.
