Healthy Living: 3 Lies You Tell Yourself That Keep You From Living The Healthy Life You Dream Of

We all live 2 lives, we have the life we actually live and the life we dream of living.  What’s standing in your way are little lies or resistance.  Resistance to change causes us to lie to ourselves all the time. Our mind considers these healthy lies and it makes us feel better about not being the person we dream of being.

Here are 3 “healthy” lies you must stop telling yourself for they are keeping you from the healthy life full of happiness you dream of.

Lie # 1:  I can’t live a healthy life because of my genetics

Think to yourself for a minute…is that really true?

Why do we give ourselves this free pass?  We tell ourselves things like “well, my whole family is overweight…”, “well, my mother or father had cancer…”, “well, I’m destined to be this way…”  This is our resistance talking and keeping you from the healthy life you deserve.  It’s a bunch of baloney.  Did you know that by the time you reach 50, your lifestyle, including your diet, determines 80% of how you age! The remaining 20% is inherited through genetics.

Truth: Genetics do not determine your health or quality of life, it is your choices.

Keep Your Kids Cool This Summer

June 28th, 2010 1 comment

Summer is the perfect season to play outside and take your kids on daily outings, but the heat can be overwhelming if you don´t dress them appropriately. The summer sun means you´ll want your baby clothes to be lightweight and allow your children´s bodies to cool themselves.

The first thing to look for in summer baby clothes, whether boys’ clothes or girls’, is the right fabric. Cotton is ideal, since it lets the skin breathe and wicks perspiration away from your little one´s skin. However, since cotton tends to wrinkle, you may look for a polyester/cotton blend that is at least 50% cotton.

Avoid fabrics that are shiny or slick, like rayon. These will trap heat next to the child´s body and can be very uncomfortable in warm weather. You can test baby clothes by putting your hand inside the clothing and wrapping the fabric around it . . . if your hand feels hot and sweaty in a few seconds, you will want to look for something cooler. Cleaning Tips – How to Keep your House Clean over the Summer Time

May 23rd, 2010 No comments

Summer is officially here and that means, kids running around the house, barbecues and house parties and with that action keeping the house clean at all time it is not an easy task.

So to aid you with this never ending job we put together some cleaning to help you keep you house sparkling ready for the next party.

Cleaning Windows

Each summer, you should clean your outside windows and screens.
Always use a broom to remove spider webs and dirt before using water. Be careful of possible bee, wasp, or hornet nests.

Driveway and Deck Cleaning

The start of summer is a great time to do these once-a-year cleaning jobs. Our first tip is to not use a power washer! They are very dangerous to you, and can destroy your deck and driveway.

For outdoor decks, you can use a diluted mixture of TSP or deck cleaner, and then use a push broom or stiff brush to scrub the deck clean. Be sure to rinse well.

Grease stains can be treated with kitty litter or dry cement left to absorb the stain and then swept away.

Floor Cleaning Tips

Without a doubt the floor is the part of the house that suffers the most during the summer holidays, kids running in and out of the house with their shoes and trainers on, drinks that are spilled all over the house not to mention the barbecue salve all over the kitchen and patio floor.

Here are some tips on how to easily clean all types of floor:

- Ceramic tiling: Don’t use harsh abrasive cleaners that might scratch the tiles. Instead use a damp-mop on the ceramic tiles with an all-purpose cleaner. Then dry the floor with a soft cloth to avoid streaks.

- Vinyl floors: To wash this type of floor, use an all-purpose cleaning solution. Test any cleaner in a corner before using it on the entire floor.

- Wood floors: The most effective way of cleaning a wooden floor applying a liquid wood-floor cleaner with a dry wax applicator on a small area at a time. Let it soak for a few minutes, and wipe up the excess. When the floor is dry, buff with a floor polisher.

- Carpet Cleaning: The simplest way to keep your carpets clean is to vacuum regularly. But for an effective deep clean it is best to have your carpet steam cleaned.

Luggage Cleaning

Summer time also means summer holidays so it is time to get the old luggage out and clean it before stuffing them with your brand new summer clothes.
Firstly, clean the outside with a diluted mild cleanser (leather should be cleaned with a commercial leather cleaner).

If the inside has developed a musty smell, clean it with a vinegar-water solution. Then let it air dry for several days.

After your holiday and before putting the luggage away for storage, toss a fabric softener dryer sheet into the closed bag, especially if you don’t use the luggage often to keep it fresh.

So now you’re set, with our cleaning tips you will have the house ready for the next bash in no time. But if you have a larger environment that needs cleaning like an office, my advice is to leave it for a professional office cleaning company.

Winter Clothing For Babies: Keep Your Baby Warm And Dry

May 5th, 2010 No comments

Do not let winter’s cold and snow keep you and your baby housebound.  Both of you still need to get out, walk and enjoy fresh air and the company of others; and the business of everyday life does not slow down for an occasional blizzard or cold snap.  Naturally, however, because your baby’s immune system is still developing, and thousands of nasty bacteria and viruses lurk in super-heated household air, you need to protect your baby against the elements and winter’s cold, bundling her in the best winter clothing for babies.

Indoor winter clothing for babies

While your baby plays indoors, you want to keep her warm and comfortable, protecting her against cold floors and chilly drafts.  Keep your baby’s arms and legs covered, dressing her in layers.  Add a turtleneck over her t-shirt, and add cute little overalls with snaps along the legs for both comfort and convenience.  If your baby is crawling or toddling, check your floors for warmth, because tile and hardwood grow very cold during the winter.  You may want to add blankets to your baby’s favorite play spaces, protecting not only against the cold but also against bumps and bounces.

Especially make sure your baby’s feet and hands stay warm.  You probably know from your own experience, if your feet and hands do not feel warm, the rest of your body cannot feel warm.  Add extra socks under booties or shoes to keep those precious little toes nice and toasty; and take time out from crawling, walking, and dancing to check baby’s hands, rubbing them gently to warm them and promote circulation to tender little fingers.  If your hardwood and tile floors remain super cold, your baby may even want to wear her mittens indoors while she crawls and explores.

Outdoor winter clothing for babies

A good hat and sturdy mittens lead the list of outdoor essentials for your baby.  Because your baby’s head is still developing, you need to keep it warm and dry, and your baby’s delicate ears will chill quickly if you leave them unprotected against the cold.  If you can splurge on only one item of winter gear for your baby, look for a high-quality down-filled set that includes both mittens and a hat.  Very few manufacturers make gloves for babies, because their hands are too small and they would be a nightmare to put-on.  Mittens have the advantage of keeping hands warmer, and they slide on and off with ease.  You may want to supplement your investment with clips or strings, attaching the mittens directly to your baby’s snowsuit, so that they do not get lost, misplaced, or left behind.

You will see lots of cute knitted items for your baby’s hands and head, and knitwear will work well in autumn and spring, but it will not afford adequate protection against harsh winter storms.  When you and your baby venture out into the dead of winter, dress your baby in fleece-lined or fiber-filled rip-stop nylon head and hand wear.  You want your baby to remain waterproof as well as weatherproof.

Summer Fashion – Keep it Simple and Cool

April 30th, 2010 No comments

Although still technically winter, it is already time to start thinking about spring and summer fashion. If you look closely, you must stay ahead of the fashion trends of summer, and to do this, you must be attentive all year. The store began an inventory of summer clothes and summer clothes until February or March, and when we see them early, you can see what sells and what does not and what works for you look.

Summer means double-edged nature. On the one hand, you do not really fall as free as you do with fashion. Fall patterns have always been my favorite person. You see, the temperature is just right for fashion clothing. You can wear several layers of clothes, no pool really. This gives you plenty of freedom, so that any casual to dress formally, but comfortable. Unlike the fashionable winter, you do not spend all your time from a jacket that covers your good taste in clothes covered. Read more…
