Select the Perfect Pink Pearls
Renown as a symbol of purity and eternal beauty, pearls are an ideal gift for Valentine’s Day, wedding, birthday or anniversary. Pearls are available in a variety of colors in addition to the traditional white color. Pink pearls are coming into their own as a fashion statement due to their rarity and striking beauty. Pink pearls are in fact some of the rarest of pearls in the world ranging in color from light pink to deeper brighter corals. The orange-pink shade is highly desirable.
Almost all pearls today are cultured, or farmed. Pink pearls can come from saltwater or freshwater mollusks. The Akoya and South Sea oysters, saltwater varieties, can develop pink hues on rare occasions. Freshwater pearls are typically dyed pink after harvesting.
The pink conch pearl is a unique and extraordinarily beautiful natural pink pearl often displaying a feature called a “flame structure.” The flame structure is most often seen in the pink or white-pink pearls. The flame structure is generated on the surface of the gems by aragonite crystals and is unique to each conch pearl.
These gems are created by a mollusk known as the Queen Conch or Strombus Gigas. Strombus Gigas means “giant spiral shell.” Since pink conch pearls contain no nacre, they are technically not actually pearls. Though not pearls, per se, they are rare gems and extremely valuable.
Nacre is an organic crystalline that creates iridescence in pearls. Nacre is strong and transparent and gives pearls their beautiful glow. Contain no nacre to protect them, the color of pink pearls can fade with time. Sunlight will speed this unfortunate occurrence. It is generally understood that pink pearls should be worn where they will not be exposed to sunlight and stored sealed in a box.
Finding matching pink conch pearls is extremely difficult as only one conch in 10,000 might contain a gem and only about 10% of those will be of a high enough quality to use in jewelry. An effective method of cultivating conch pearls has only just been developed in 2009. Most conch pearls on the market today are natural gems, though we will see this change drastically in the near future, an exciting development to be sure.
Pearls will last a lifetime and allow you to add romance to your look without coming off as girlish. Pink pearls are a perfect complement to people with light skin tones, hair and eyes. The soft flame will surely liven up your face by adding sparkle and interest,
Pink is no longer a color for little girls. Pink has become the color of feminine power. Today’s women are better educated, more independent, and have more choices than any time in our history. More than ever, women have been noticed as a powerful demographic.
